A product of this community, Jael Myrick attended Kennedy High School, Chabot College and La Sierra University. He spent his early twenties fighting on behalf of our environment with the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) as a fundraiser, which culminated in organizing Membership Action Campaigns.
At age 21 Jael founded Standing To Represent Our Next Generation (STRONG) to strengthen our young leaders’ civic participation and investment in our community. Since its inception, STRONG has supported countless progressive campaigns and sponsored an annual political leadership institute for young people between the ages of 16 and 24.
Since 2009, Jael served as primary representative for Assemblymember Nancy Skinner during which time he led the initiative for Clean Slate program to Contra Costa County giving a second chance to Richmond residents who struggled to find employment after minor convictions. In addition, he has advocated to make various State agencies more responsive to the needs of Richmond residents including lobbying on behalf of the city of Richmond, the School District and local nonprofits to bring funding into the community.
Jael was appointed to the Richmond City Council on February 4, 2013.
